Emily holds a Master of Music in Performance and Literature from the University of Illinois and a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from Indiana University.
Previously, she was a violin and group class instructor at the Illinois String Academy at the University of Illinois Engagement Program where she also interned with violin teacher Dr. Aaron Jacobs and used the Suzuki method in her teaching. Other teaching experiences include being an orchestral coach with Illinois Summer Youth Music (Urbana-Champaign, IL) as well as a K-8 music instructor for ARTSiE (Arts in Education, Hanover Park, IL) where she used her expertise to draw upon popular music styles. She also spent time at Fairview String Project (Bloomington, IN) as an assistant violin teacher utilizing the pedagogy of Prof. Mimi Zweig.
As a violinist, Emily plays as a section member with Carmel Symphony Orchestra and has previously collaborated with the Moth Mainstage on jazz violin, the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, and the Bay View Music Festival as Principal Second Violin. Other past appearances include the Orford Music Festival, the Aspen Music Festival, and the Pacific Region International Summer Music Festival.
Emily has also received recognition for her playing from educational institutions, having received a Creative and Performing Arts Fellowship in her graduate studies, admittance and successful completion of graduate jazz improvisation courses at the U of I, and a Premier Young Artist Award from Indiana University.
Through her joy of performing Emily also incorporates performance confidence and training into students’ music journeys. Emily enjoys working with students of all ages and tailoring the Suzuki curriculum to individualized learning for each student as well as their interests. Emily is also the Administrative Assistant at ISA, where she aids in communications with families, among other duties. She received her Suzuki Violin Book 1 teacher training in 2023 from the Chicago Suzuki Institute.
