Kaysi Yearous began playing the piano when she was four years old and graduated recently from the High School for Performing and Visual Arts in Houston, Texas. She is a first-year undergraduate at the Peabody Institute and studies piano with Professor Boris Slutsky. Some of her recent accomplishments include prizes in the MTNA Conference Texas Division, Rubato International Piano Competition, and TSIPF Concerto Competition, among others. During high school, Kaysi performed as a soloist with the Central Texas Philharmonic, HSPVA Symphony, and with Virtuosi of Houston for the premiere of Robert Nelson’s Introduction and Allegro for Solo Piano and Harp. She has participated in several festivals, such as PianoTexas, Bowdoin International Music Festival, and Texas State International Piano Festival. She has worked with artists including Lowell Liebermann, Michelle Cann, Yong Hi Moon, and Joyce Yang.
Outside of solo performance, Kaysi is passionate about teaching and sharing music with her community. From 2022-2024, she served as a co-founder and co-president of Kinder HSPVA’s chapter of Music as Medicine, during which the organization performed and gave music lessons at various hospitals, care centers, and schools throughout the Houston area. She has also taught piano as a volunteer with Kinder HSPVA, Mark Twain Elementary School, Parker Elementary School, MentArts, and Music as Medicine. She is also interested in combating food insecurity and has worked as the Special Project Lead for the Houston Food Bank Student Heroes. She hopes to continue using her talents to help the community beyond high school and cannot wait to build new skills and relationships through working with ISA!
